Char Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer
Historique

Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer Tank
History
This German tank is a "Jagdpanzer 38(t)" tank destroyer often known as "Hetzer". It still has its original petrol engine and all the German markings from barrel to hull. It was based on a Czechoslovakian tank, the "Skoda LT38", and was designed to be fast, economical, easily concealed and with considerable firepower. It was armed with a 75mm gun plus an MG machine gun on the roof that was remotely controlled from the interior compartment, and was considered to be one of the most effective "tank killers" of the war, although its invention came too late to change the course of history.

At the end of the war the Czech army recovered almost 400 Hetzers, of which some were subsequently sold to the Swedish army, and 158 units to the Swiss army which used them until the early 1970s under the name "Panzerjäger G13".

Although it is very likely that it was used during the final combats in the battle of Normandy, this is still a subject of debate among specialists.

This example was presented to the town of Bayeux by the Swiss army in the mid-1980s.
