Inscription. The house at 229 S. Mechanic St. is one of the oldest structures still standing in Lebanon. It was built in the Federal style around 1808 by Richard S. Thomas. An early town lawyer, he served as a state senator from 1806 to 1808. The house was initially a farmhouse south of Lebanon and was not part of town until March 1862.

In 1870, it was bought by Dr. D. T. D. Dyche, a local dentist. After his daughter married W. Chester Maple it was their home. It stayed in the family almost 100 years. In June 1967, the William D. and Jean M. Rackett family purchased it. Part of Lebanon's Floraville Historic District, the home was added to the National Register in October 1984.

Erected by Lebanon Rotary Club.
