Inscription.

As the British troops marched from State Street, west along Ford Street, they arrived at a store located on the south side of Ford near what used to be Isabella Street.

They entered the storeroom used as an arsenal and were faced by a young Canton lad by the name of Jones.

Even though the British troops far outnumbered him, the brave youth raised his musket at the invaders, firing into their midst, severely wounding one of the soldiers.

He began loading powder and ball into the barrel of the musket to fire again when the British troops, enraged by his defiance, raised their guns in unison and fired a deadly volley into the courageous boy.

Still not satisfied, one of the British soldiers charged the stricken lad with his raised bayonet, stabbing him, and pinning him to the counter of the store.
