Regarding Scioto Township District No. 2 Schoolhouse. Excerpt from the National Register nomination:
Scioto Township District No. 2 was defined by 1855. It had as many pupils as 67 in 1876 and as few as 25 in 1910. The ¾ acre parcel being nominated was first deeded to the Board of Education for a schoolhouse lot in 1867/1888 (two parts). This school was built in 1888 and in a rare fashion the builders of the school are identified as Ater & Kern in the stone plaque above the door. The location of the District #2 school building(s) predating this one is not known. It is believed the District #2 schoolhouse closed in 1919, the year the Board of Education sold back the land to the owner of the surrounding farm.
Countywide, there were 23 one-room schools operating in 1920. All of them had closed by 1932 according to the Ohio Department of Education records.
