Regarding Peoples Bank Company Building. Excerpt from the National Register nomination:
The Peoples Bank Company was incorporated in 1903. … Initially the bank was located in the Lehman Block at the southwest corner of High and Waterloo Streets in the corner space. The bank then built this building as its headquarters in 1924. This building was designed and built by A.B. Van Gundy of Lancaster, Ohio. The Peoples Bank was the second of two banks to be founded in Canal Winchester. Operating until 1962, it was then taken over by Huntington National Bank, continuing in operation today. This building was vacated by the bank in 1965 when they built a new structure in town on South High Street. The new Peoples Bank was the first to have a drive-in window in town. The Village of Canal Winchester purchased the earlier building in 1965 for use as the town hall, for which it is still used today.
