Regarding Peter Ehrenhart House and Shop. Excerpt from the National Register nomination for the North High Street Historic District, which includes this property:
Peter E. Ehrenhart's House and Shop was built c. 1870 as a variation of the “4 over 4” with a commercial storefront and entry incorporated into the facade. It is an excellent example of the the combined residential and commercial use in one building which only appears in the High Street Historic District of Canal Winchester. Significant features include the single door entries with sidelights and transoms, paired interior end chimneys, six over six light double hung windows and unaltered masonry walls. Peter Ehrenhart was a coverlet weaver and his wife (Mrs. C. Ehrenhart) was a milliner. The original use of the contributing outbuilding to the rear of this on Mound Street is unknown, but it is known to have been a kitchen in c. 1895.
