Charles Mulford Robinson
The Visionary
— Fort Wayne’s Nationally Celebrated Park & Boulevard System —
Inscription.
A leading urban architect of his time, Robinson was hired by Col. David Foster to beautify Fort Wayne. Among his ideas for Fort Wayne was our now nationally celebrated Park and Boulevard System. He and Foster successfully teamed to sell the beautification idea to a skeptical community. Robinson was a student of the City Beautiful Movement that was embodied in the Chicago Exposition of 1893, and which encouraged wide boulevards, monumental buildings, and formal plantings.
