Across the road, in the St. Clement's Island Museum, you can learn why Maryland's first colonists risked a harrowing sea voyage from England to an uncertain future in America. Follow their experiences in the New World, including their encounters with Native Americans. Learn, too, about the first attempt at true religious tolerance in America.
The museum also tells the stories of the lighthouse on St. Clement's Island and post-colonial Maryland's heritage of hunting, crabbing, fishing, and oystering.
Museum facilities include exhibits, collections, audio-visual presentations, and a museum store.
If the museum is closed when you are here, you are invited to visit the grounds.
You will see an authentic one-room schoolhouse, a historic Potomac River dory boat, and a view of St. Clement's Island.
