This view of the marker is facing west along Reeceville Road.
Inscription. Here on his farm, Spratt performed aeronautical experiments that aided Wilbur and Orville Wright in achieving the first successful airplane flight. Among the first to use a wind tunnel, he helped the Wright brothers diagnose flaws with their 1901 glider. By using his idea to simultaneously measure a wing's lift and drift forces, the Wrights designed the optimal wing shape for their 1903 Flyer. The Wrights visited here in December 1906.
